Split-level river

Anyone can build a dam across a river. But it takes a visionary to build one down the middle of a river.

Such is the hydroelectric dam on the Snake River in Idaho Falls. That's the eponymous falls to the left.

  1. Every lock & dam is a dam built lengthwise along the side of a river. I live near the Mississippi so am used to seeing this type of dam. But they don't let the water fall over the side of them so this one is new even to me.
