Great Basin National Park, Wheeler Peak Campground

Ten miles of twisting, 8% grade is absolutely worth it

I found a sunny campsite amongst the aspens and firs. The sites are nicely separated. Vault toilets and water spigots scattered about. Very quiet and the air is delicious, which is good, since the elevation has me gasping for breath with the slightest exertion. Must acclimate. Even though I'm at 9,657 feet, I was sufficiently warm during the night.

  1. BEAUTIFUL area & most likely cool due to the altitud...stay put, don't come down, or to southern California, we're going thru another heatwave, many days above 100 F + to make more miserable we have a high humidity.

  3. May we readers expect some stunning sky photos soon? I had to look up this park since your pics looked so inviting. It will have to go on my list of visits for next year since I love night-sky watching.
