Adventures in convenience store cuisine

I had filled the gas tank and stepped into the store to grab some beverages and whatever else caught my eye. A huge burrito? Why not. Beats the trouble of making my own. I put it in the fridge to enjoy later (if enjoy wasn't too optimistic).

Today seemed as good a time as any to find out what I'd gotten myself into. I had to cut it in half to fit it in my RoadPro oven. (If I'm to use the oven, I have to remember to do it when there's still plenty of daylight to recharge the house batteries. The thing sucks power.)

It was warm a half hour later and I took my first taste. Hmmmm... not bad. I took another bite. Pretty good, in fact. And spicy in a nice, flavorful way. Certainly worth $4.39. If I ever see these again somewhere, I'll buy more.

    1. Half burrito: 270 calories, 5g saturated fat, 31.5g carbs. But it's not something someone would be eating three meals a day, every day. At least not this someone.

    2. Besides, the article isn't entitled "Adventures in nutrition." Even if it were, it would be tongue in cheek rather than offering unsolicited dietary scolding.

    4. Sorry if I hurt your feelings it was not my intention... as for the farts, go ahead make your day !! LOL. Farting is a + thing it denotes you have no obstructions in your pipe-line & your peristalsis is working nicely.

  2. You don't ask how many carbs, fat or calories in a convenience store burrito, you just try to survive the experience :)

  3. Hey there. Is it ok to use your name here?

I've just finished reading your entire RST blog. What fun!
Now, I'll have to go back and open up all the comments. I like comments. Whine here - Wish they'd just be there, like when a single post is accessed.

I have a solution for your step. Attach a cord, rope, bungie or what ever to it and to the passenger door handle or mirror with enough slack to not be in the way but not enough to get near your rear tire. (if you back up to leave, this is a different can of worms) Anyway, the cord should remind you if you see it, but if not, you will hear it dragging. It might get scuffed up but not smooooshed.

Is Chet in prison in Mexico or USA? Are you going to crowd source his legal fees or are you going to leave him there as a kind of intervention/tough love thing?

I have a lot more questions but I got winded typing this and have to nap. I'll check in soon to seeeee zzzzzzzzz snort

    1. Sure use my real name. Or any fake name.

I've decided to do without a step for a while. It hasn't been as much of an inconvenience as I thought it would be.

The US and Mexico are still arguing over who has jurisdiction in Chet's case. Meanwhile, he rots in a jail straddling the border. The cartel said it would cover legal fees, but they've changed their mind. I think it's tough love time.

    2. Have you ever tried to heat a burrito or cook a chicken on the manifold of your engine whilst driving?

Have you looked into getting a wiring set up like in class c's (isolator) that lets you charge your house batteries from your alternator when on the road (or just running the engine)?

    3. Using the engine to heat food requires advanced planning. Ew!

I have the parts (except the cables) to charge my house batteries via the alternator. I just haven't hooked it up because I haven't had the need yet.

  4. Do you have a 12v plug on your dash powered by the start battery? Could the RoadPro oven be used in that plug during your driving escapades? Any wire gauge differences in your rig between the cab outlet and the house outlets?

It's pushing 90* this weekend here in WA. Trying to decide if the trashcan liner slip-and-slide will be worth the ambulance ride and shame of onlookers. Your thoughts?

    1. Sure, I could plug the RoadPro into the dash, but that would require thinking ahead about what I want to eat and when.
