Freer

To me, today is about more than the United States’ independence from England. It’s about personal independence. Or at least a greater degree of independence than I had before hitting the road.

My current life isn’t as tied to the agendas and expectations of others. I’m not anchored to a quarter acre of suburb. I don’t have a mountain of debt. My worries are a fraction of what they were.

So here’s wishing you a happy Independence Day and a life of increasing freedom from the things that hold you captive.

  1. I have a lot of freedom now. The only thing holding me captive is my desire to stay with my husband and his insistence on staying in Minnesota. Winters here are six months long and I found that to be too long to be away from him when when I tried solo snowbirding. But we have four huge windows in our living room and they overlook a nature center so it's not as bad as it could be. While the view technically never changes in reality it does with every change in the weather and the season. I can live with that.

  2. Tomorrow it's 112 degrees here in LA LA land. I'm heading to the upper peninsula of Michigan tonight to spend the summer on lake Superior where the mosquitoes dont hang out.
.. near the apostile islands. Tons of boondocking all along the southern side of the largest body of freshwater in America. The lake temperature dictates the air temperature, mostly, Currently, lows around 60 highs mid 70s. Nice.
