Another way to do it

  1. Two ideas: Intrnt'l Kite Festival in Long Beach, WA and/or Cotati Accordion Festival in Cotati, CA.

I tried making it to Long Beach last year but had to turn east 70 miles south of Portland; the trees gave me the heebie-jeebies. I've heard the festival is a nice event...people spread out, approachable, but easy to move on when desired.

Cook took an interest in the accordion in the early nineties and bought me a child's instrument to learn on. (You can hear me on her video *Cat Odor Review* on her Youtube channel: EnidDine) In 2008 she flew into Sacramento where I picked her up and we drove to Cotati. The festival brings musicians from all over the world. One of the original organizers, Renee de la Prada, will be there this year.

  2. Between my parents watching Lawrence Welk when I I was a kid, certain strains of Mexican music, and the spread of zydeco in the late '80, I've had enough accordion to last the rest of my life. Kites, though... I can never get enough.

    1. The story of the influence of German music on Mexican music is interesting, though. Accordions, tubas, the polka tempo...
