I was at a beach day use area shortly after sunrise, depositing my trash in a bin, when a guy walked by and cheerily said, “Welcome to California.” He had noticed my New Mexico license plate. Its unique yellow color (or the alternate turquoise) is kind of hard to ignore when most plates are predominantly white.
Just the other day I had commented to a fellow nomad that I wondered what types of reactions—from positive to neutral to negative—my out-of-state plate elicited. Well, this data sample of one was friendly. Nice way to start a day.
I don't ever recall having felt unwelcome in California. Despite the wide-spread disparagement of Californians, I found them to be friendly and kind.
ReplyDeleteI got to the point when I heard anyone talking about them negatively, I'd butt in and put in my fifty-cents worth. It's interesting how many windbags deflate when confronted. None, not ONE, despite their nastiness, wanted to fight. LOL!
I lived in California for 20 years, so I've known people with various degrees of hospitality and hostility toward visitors. But, yeah, most of them are welcoming because so many of them have come from somewhere else.
DeleteI would have asked why in the world did you come to this Communist-run state? You should have come 20 years ago when it was still a great place to visit and explore.
ReplyDeleteTwenty years ago they were saying you should've been here 20 years ago. And 20 years before that they were saying you should've been here 20 years ago. And 20 years before that they were saying you should've been here 20 years ago. And 20 years before that they were saying you should've been here 20 years ago...
DeleteOne cannot help but wonder why KennyD remains in CA if he hates it so much, I'm certain he could find he could find the conditions he desires in Texas or Florida......
ReplyDeleteAt 80 years old, it is a little late to be moving. If I knew 20 years ago, when I retired, what I know now, I would have been long gone.
ReplyDeleteBut, I didn't, and we stuck around, and here we are. It's like slowly being boiled alive, you don't realize what is happening until it is too late.
I don't hate California, I am a native son and all. I have lived my whole life here. What I do hate is what the liberal democrats have done to the state over the last 20 years.
You can bloviate all you want, but you can't change the facts of what they have done to the state. If you are one of them, I do feel sorry for you.
