It was worth loosing a little sleep.
The next canyon south leads to the very popular Mirror Lake area. And to the Provo River Falls. And to Bald Mountain Pass. And snow. So I went there, too.
Spring melt at Provo River Falls
Yes, it's almost June, and the lakes at 10,000 feet are still frozen, and the campgrounds are buried in snow
I really need to recalibrate what "late spring" means
We once planned to hike a trail in June that was buried under snow higher than Dave's 6'2" height. Oops. Like you said, "Recalibrate."
ReplyDeleteAbout 3 years ago, Kent and I on the Mirror Lake highway the first weekend in July. There had been a lot of snow the previous winter. Even though the temps in the valley had been in the upper 80s and low 90s for most of June, there was still at least three feet of snow at the top of the Mirror Lake highway.
ReplyDeleteI should add that we were on a motorcycle.
ReplyDeleteMe again. I've spent a lot of time in the Smith Morehouse area. Our stake girls' camp was always at a private campground just before the public campground. The last day of camp always including canoeing on the lake. Good times. One of my first outings with Kent in to the great outdoors was to sit by the Weber River below the lake while he fly fished.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Nothing like the outdoors when it's not inundated with humans :)
