Because feet can get itchy after a week, even in a perfectly nice place, we left Manzano Mountains State Park and headed south—where it's also warmer.

At first the plan was to stay at Elephant Butte, but we couldn't find a spot that spoke to both of us.

So we stocked up on provisions in Truth or Consequences and headed 20 additional miles south to Caballo Lake State Park. Rather than a campsite by the lake, we chose spots in the campground below the dam, next to the Rio Grande.

The host warned us that a gathering of off-roaders would be arriving at the weekend, packing the park. We have a few days to figure out what to do about that.
