I’m parked along one of Mendocino’s through streets. This evening, between about 6:00 and 6:30, there have been quite a few cars passing by. About five seconds apart. This wouldn’t be unusual in larger towns, but the population of Mendocino is only a little over 600, and a good portion of them are busy running shops, restaurants, and B&Bs. So where are all these cars coming from? Okay, add the tourists arriving for Memorial Day weekend, but still. Are they driving around and around the town? Weird. Or am I the weird one? (Well, yes, I am weird, but this behavior is not my type of weird.)
They are just getting a look at the cool white van they just passed and want another look.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked out the Mendocino farmers market? It's shown on MAPS at the corner of Main & Howard.
ReplyDeleteOops. Farmers Mkt Friday only. Never mind.
ReplyDeleteLooking at satellite view, I'm astonished at Mendocino's provincialism. With Fort Bragg up the street, I'd have thought it'd be wall to wall brothels. Given the staid appearance, it's also surprising that they allow persons such as yourself. Good ole Californians!
ReplyDeleteFort Bragg hasn't been a military installation since the Civil War. Mendocino is sort of an arty, touristy place. B&Bs, galleries, boutiques, old hippies, tech escapees, outdoorsy types. Very mellow.
DeleteBut....but...I'm almost *sure* Dad was stationed there prior to us moving to Japan circa '53/'54. This threatens our family history. Where WAS he....when he SAID he was at Ft. Bragg?!?!
DeleteFort Bragg in North Carolina is a huge Army base.
