I guess I'm not psychotic anymore

A few months ago my head added to its catalog of noises. It sounded like people murmuring in another room. Or like “All Things Considered” turned way down. It took me a while to realize there were no softly talking people around, just me hearing my body get old. Besides, what's the point of voices in my head if I can't make out what they're trying to get me to do?

Well, I haven’t heard that particular sound for a few days now. Maybe it's gone for good.

It’s like when I used to hear my pulse in my right ear. Did I have an arterial obstruction? My doctor assured me I didn’t. Then I just stopped hearing it a few months later. Okay.

So what’s next on the Sounds That Aren't There playlist? Laughter? A bandsaw cutting though tin? Raffi songs?

  1. I used to hear music when I'd lie down on the couch. I made my daughter turn off her radio. Guess what? It wasn't her.
