Kofa National Wildlife Refuge

I’ve driven US-95 between Yuma and Quartzite (or between Quartzsite and Yuma) dozens of times, frequently not paying much attention to my surroundings. But today I stopped to take pictures because of the way the light hit that one peak.

  1. As you likely have read, it's among the last holdouts of habitat keeping the Desert Bighorn from extinction.

  2. Have you been up to the Picacho State Rec Area? A guy working at Castle Dome Landing suggested it the other day. He said it has some nice rock piles and solitude.

  4. The lighting on that one section makes it look like a fortified castle built into the side of the mountain.
