The fix needs fixing

If you've been following the blog for a few months, you know one of the aluminum roof rack uprights broke and I repaired it with a couple steel L-brackets. Oooo, steel!

Well, now they've broken.

It's not like I've been driving a lot of rough roads. But I guess expansion joints and the occasional pothole can do their damage. Oh well, I'll have to come up with something stronger. In the meantime...

    4. Duct tape or WD-40, depending on whether you want something to move or not.

  3. Wow! Broke the steel bracket! That's some force! Wonder if you can bottle it?

    1. The other three are fine. I think the problems is that this one is above the side door and that big hole in the van allows for more body flex right there.

  5. I wonder if you could slot the holes in the bracket and put a bushing in there. It may be able to move a bit to relieve the stress. It may rattle or squeak too though. Just a thought

    1. The bungee cord seems to be accomplishing the same thing.

  6. You could try using a piece of steel angle iron. That would give you more structure and strength than the two brackets. A home improvement store would have it.
