I can't just stand up and walk around in the Rolling Steel Tent. The roof is too low. Moving from one end of the van to the other is often a matter of butt scooting. Hauling myself up out of bed and into a bent-at-the-waist stance can be a bit of gymnastics. (And he sticks the landing!)
My van life is made much easier by a couple of grab handles. The all-steel contractor cabinet, which is bolted to the wall and through the floor, is a great attachment place.
We are just beginning a van conversion. My partner insisted on a Transit mid-height we can stand up in. My first choice would've been a stealth van like yours. My plan was to scoot around in an office chair and/or a wheelie stool.
ReplyDeleteI thought about a wheelie stool, but by the time I had the bed in place along one wall and cabinets along the other wall, there was really no room—or point— of a rolling stool or chair. It might have been a different story if I'd been able to run the bed across the back.
ReplyDeleteIf I were rigging the van just for me, I'd use a folding cot or even consider a hammock, in order to have my bike inside. But the old man insists on making it all "nice" with a real toilet, sink, fridge and such...
ReplyDelete"Nice?" Ewwwww.
ReplyDeleteThat handle looks crooked to me.......That would drive me nutz....
ReplyDeleteIt's crooked for a reason. It's easier to slip my hand in when I'm on the bed (head at the right of the photo). I don't need to cock my wrist as much.
