Google knows everything

I lived in Utah for six years long ago. I've been passing through the state during the last three years (like right now). But it wasn't until yesterday that I realized there's the name Uinta and also Uintah, with an H. Why the two spellings? And who decides what gets which? So I turned to Google for an answer.
