An experiment

I guess mainstream folks would consider my entire nomad life an experiment (if not plain insanity). If so, then I’m conducting an experiment within an experiment.

I’m going to see how many days I can stay where I am, in the desert west of Yuma, without moving the Rolling Steel Tent. I’m going to learn how long I can fight off my itch to go places. I’m going to learn whether I can enjoy it. What will happen if I don’t drive to town every couple of days just to have a change of scenery, just to be moving?

I’m 24 hours into the test. I’ll see how the next 24 go. And the 24 after that. And so on.

  1. someone go out and tempt this man with a free ride into town for a special treat.. A test of mind over matter is no good if the a little devilment of temptation does not come along trying to derail it.

Lets go get some tacos and ice cream...my treat, my wheels, I will do the driving :)

  2. If you had a bike just to ride around close by, would that still count?
I always have to keep moving, unless the rain is dumping down, I have no idea why.....

  3. Experiments such as this are a SURE sign of insanity.

    Welcome to the club.

  4. I know I like to have at least small cloverleaf trips regularly. By vehicle or on foot is OK with me. About four days is my serious limit.

  5. Where you're camped now, I like out into the mountains and check out the mines. Usually walk up a wash til I get to bed rock. One time I climbed up the ah ah lava dome, but be careful, it would be easy to break a leg there.

  6. There's a great mine tunnel to explore there. I've been considering how to test air quality and have better light without breaking the bank.

    2. We were wondering if we'd see you when we stopped at Casa de Lou in a couple weeks.

  8. Because the Florida water management campgrounds have a max 7 day stay I have always move at least every week in my snowbird camps. I have the clam traveler screen room with 3 sides a floor rug and an extra tarp for over the roof that doubles my sq ft for this season in the sun..

    1. Are those campgrounds remote and quiet? It's hard to picture Florida as either of those but most of it is pretty rural, isn't it?

    2. Some are real quiet some not as much like Potts Preserve north of Inverness the unmuffled air boats are real close but it's a free 7 day squat and the shopping and the library is just a few miles from this camp.

  9. RUN, ROLL, MOVE, financials willing..
Junkyard six's, including trannys pulled and installed can be found for a couple grand. Lots of express parts nationally, cheap. Itchy feet when not scratched rot.
