I drove clear off the map

My stack of Benchmark Road & Recreation Atlases doesn’t include either of the Dakotas. So I missed my ritual of studying the trip before taking off. I had to depend on digital resources. It’s just not the same. But I made it.

Oh, and a good thing about the flatter states: good cell reception everywhere.

  1. Lots of HOT left in this Summer Al. Your close, head to the U.P.. Good cool camping on either side of Ontanigan. No bugs lakeside.

    1. I dread the mind-numbing drive across ND and western MN. Is there a portal that'll instantaneously pop me out at the other end?

  2. Do you have a top secret clearance?
If not, hands on the wheel is the only portal.

  3. Speaking of maps .... I just found this new-to-me website/app that lets me access the world and zoom in on a house. My abode, sadly, is in the flightpath of Boeing testing and 3 other airfields. So I wanted to know who was flying what seemed like an aircraft carrier overhead at 2:11 am (02:11 hrs) most every night. Plane Finder (Flight Tracker). I can track and trace almost every flight and click on it shows who operates it, where it came from and where it's going, how fast, how high. Also it will decode airport codes and plane tail numbers. The fun ones are military; they disappear off screen a few miles before landing. But the best part is it is so easy to zoom out then move to another part of the world or country and then zoom in on street maps. Anywhere.

Has anyone else had their time sucked up with this 'game'? I just watched a Navy C40? go from Dallas area to a low fly-by at an Air Force base near Olympia then fly across the country to Norfolk all in one go! How much fuel did that take? Anyway, it has really good map access.

Just in case your map stops at Canada..EH.

    1. If you are asking about the plane finder it's Plane Finder. It' free but upgrades are available. I use it on a lap-top. It has phone apps on the site.
